Before starting our film, we had to do a textual analysis of the first two minutes of a film in the related genre to the opening sequence we are doing. As zombie comedy films are not in a high proportion of being made,Shaun of the Dead is one of the only films that are close enough to the genre we wanted to.
Textual Analysis of Shaun of the Dead
The following textual analysis is of a zombie comedy Shaun of the Dead. During the opening two minutes of the film we are introduced to the sets of the flats belonging to the main characters Ed, Shaun and Liz. We are also introduced to the main characters already said and their relationship with one another.
The following passages describe the elements throughout the first two minutes of the film and how they help set all the key elements such as characters, setting and storyline and how clear this is being presented.
Straight away, we are taken inside a key setting, the Winchester pub. Starting off in this setting shows the importance of it within the film. Also we are introduced to a lot of the main characters and their relationship within each other. The way in which we achieve this is through dialogue. The use of medium shots throughout the introduction helps to establish the characters personality through their clothes.
Irony plays a big plays a big part in this setting up of the atmosphere. Song choices that are used tie into the films storyline of zombies. Also the actions of the actors in the opening sequence with reference to zombies in the way they act and move. Also the way in which they have them move during the opening credits as humans is completely the same to the end of the film after the “apocalypse” when they are seen as zombies.
Elements of the film I may use in my film opening include:
Irony
Music that is themed

Will, a good start. Perhaps be a little more specific in regards to the camera shots and the action. Imagine you are describing what is happening to someone who has never seen the film. CHA
