Question 7 : Looking Back, what have I learnt?
At the start of this piece after doing the preliminary, I knew there was a lot to improve on but there was areas to mould into better things ready for this piece.
When we did the preliminary task, I had very little understanding of how all the pieces of a film went together, i.e audio, footage, Special effects. I had a lack of how to get the right camera shots into the piece and of how they could help to promote each other.
In the preliminary task, I knew there was areas which I had been good at such as the different camera shots and keeping it moving all the time. However, One big flaw I now see with it is the lack of speed of cuts between shots. If that had been the opening of a normal film produced in the real media world, I think a lot of people would have either fallen asleep or left the cinema as they would have found it boring to watch. Coming into the media piece which was the larger portion of my grade, I know see I had to have that improved significantly.
Having not done drama since year 9, This was my first piece of acting or in front of a camera in almost 4 years. At the same time I was trying to balance directing the movie and and control the other actors motions to fully capitalise on the task at hand. This really pushed my boundaries on control and organisation to the limit. I'm not the best at organisation I can admit that, but personally , this media piece was a highlight that actually showed how I could be very organised in what I was doing.
Outside of the classroom, I can admit I'm not usually the best at socialising with others and communicating with those I have never really had much to do with. This meant I may have struggled through this piece had I not actually worked well with my partner, Lauren. Between us, we have had our moments but we have managed to pull through, despite our differences of opinion and the fact she has been away several time where we are at crucial stages and got through our project in one piece.
To summarise the outcome of my piece, I believe I have fully developed and matured within a lot of aspect during this project. Some of the places, such as organisation and communication, will develop not just in Media and this piece of work, but outside which I can hopefully take to other subjects and things that I do . However, I do believe that next project If we work together, we will get straight into the work and not leave It as long. If we had given ourselves more time, then we could have developed it much more efficiently and not worried some much if one of us was away/
Question 6: What I have learnt from Technology through this filming
Throughout this filming process, I have learnt there are many skills required to go into a film in order to make it as good as we can possibly make it for production and distribution.
Firstly, there is the art of filming correctly with the camcorder/
The location we used for the first part of the filming was the moors near to where I live. Filming on the moors with the camcorder had a few problems such as sound reverberating off the camcorder which make the sound created by the actions sometimes inaudible to hear. Also, certain types of shots such as a tracking shot were very improbable to use as we didn't have the right capabilities to perform them with.
Secondly, when it came to the editing of the film, we had to very immaculate with where we cut it and for how long we used each shot for. Having shots too long may diverse or even bore the audience if they see the same action for too long, however through coral software and being able to have shot sharp clips, we have been able to keep the action going as fast pace as we need to.
When it came to adding sound for the film, we had to make sure that the right music was being put onto the piece in order to maximise the action we have in the sequence. Certain areas we had planned to have music such as the pink panther when I'm doing an investigative sequence and some harder darker music when I was getting ready to go out. However on the pink panther area we had to change and remove that because we couldn't have the right area we wanted.
Over the course of this topic, I have made advancements in the way I view the people who have to operate these pieces in the movies and show how I can put the actions in the media piece to full use.

Question 5: Elements of the text for the target audience
As previously stated in the last answer, we had originally planned for our film to be for a 15 age rating for the cinema audience targeting. This means we could have had lots of blood and gore for the audience and that it could have had a lot of violence shown.
However, we have since changed the way in which we have filmed to suit the audience at a lower age rating without actually realising it. We didn't incorporate the violence as when we were planning the film we had forgotten to take it into account. Also the fact the we were using my house for it and I have elderly neighbours so I had to take into account any effects that it could have to them.
The lack of violence nor blood has lowered the potential age rating so a wider audience can be targeted. As we have only filmed the two minute opening, we have to realise that we don't know the full outcome on how it would carry on, whether we would have those elements or not./
However, using the bbfc as a guideline, we have managed to choose that maybe having a lower age rating would be better for the distribution of our film and that focusing on the younger audience like we have subliminally done would lead to more money being main if the music was made in the real media world.

Question 4 : Audience of our film
The typical audience member of our film has slightly changed since what we had previously planned to do at the beginning of this piece.
At the beginning of our piece, we had originally planned to have people over the age of 15 to be the audience members that our film would be targeted at. They would have had an interest in the super normal and also maybe dabble into the liking of horror movies or ones where there is a continuous showing of blood. This was all devised because we took ideas from Shaun of the Dead, which has an age rating of fifteen and so we followed the conventions provided by BBFC so if it were to be produced in the real media world, it would be up to acceptable standards.
Since we have created the film, we have altered the target audience due to certain aspects that have built up during its creation. Due to a lack of blood and guts within the film, we thing that it probably could be lowered to a age rating such as a 12 or 12A. This would limit the blood we could use in later filming but based on the opening we have done, it would be more applicable to keep to the same tempo and vibe. Also we don't really show and violence or action that would be depicted as horrific so again the age rating may be altered from what we had original planned to film/
Through doing the filming, we have found out that being able to stick to where we had planned to film or using the age rating to our advantage has been difficult. Having chosen to do an 15 age certificate, we have not really taken to the advantage the amount of swearing and violence we could have used. However, I personally believe that we have a sufficient 2 minute film which uses the aspects we have Incorporated to promote the film to a wide audience.

Question 3: Media distribution
I believe that Universal would be the company to distribute and produce my film. I say this because they created Shaun of the dead, the other piece of media that is in the same genre as my film and they would have previous knowledge on how to distribute the film like this. Also they are a represented corporation so people who associated with there films then it would be more areas of the public and audience targeted.
Our film follows the rules of of the regulation which we had to follow. At the start of creating and going on the knowledge of how we wanted our film to be through Shaun of the Dead, we had planned our film to be a 15 rating. This meant we could have lots of blood and sexual scenes however during filming we turned out to have none of that planned within the film. We never had to character who was killed off shown on screen being killed or any actual violence at all. In a case like that, I feel the age rating of our film just from the filming we have done, would have dropped to either a 12 or even a PG depending on how we continued the film.
Distribution of the film is an important part within a film. Creation and editing get you so far but having the right person to distribute it can have the best image possible on a film and also have the biggest impact.

Question 2: Representation of social groups.
Within our film, two types of people are represented by the two lead characters.
Firstly there is the character of the girl who turns into a zombie. She is shown as being weak and defenceless and easily picked on. This follows a usual stereotype that quite a lot of movies follow when often a character that is played by a female gets defeated and hurt easily in comparison to men. The fact that she is also wearing the pink shows the stereotype of what colour they are assosciated with. The Picture Below shows her in Black but the clothes they are the same ones she wore for the filming just without the colour.
The other main character is the boy who is the antagonist of the film. He in comparison to the other character follows a completely different kettle of fish in that he breaks the usual stereotype of the male gender by being a coward and a wimp. This shows weakness in male sex and that not all people are like this. The way in which he dresses shows he still has class and the fact he uses his surroundings shows he has initiative but lacks the nerve.
The clothes worn by the character are shown in the picture above just not from the situation in question.
Certain shots we used such as close ups of the face of the zombie face and the tracking shot during the filming of the hiding scene show that and help to promote it. The use of a distance to close up shot when he comes down the stairs helps us to show the classy side but that is completely contradicted later on.
Creating these characters was slightly tricky until it came to the acting side of it as we as directors and actors could physically decide who and where we want the characters to maximise the side and angle we want to promote where they are.
